  • Personal Deflection: this type of person has personal issues to the point they cannot face themselves or their loved ones, which makes the person convinced they don’t have people looking after them. This makes them think they should keep doing what they’re doing because it’s just them against the world
  • Organizational Deflector: a CEO or exec convinces themselves and others they’re too busy to stop and take a good look at things. The person with addiction works hard to be convinced the problem can be solved by working more hours when it only makes it worse
  • Dramatist: adrenaline addiction gets to feeling like a sense of satisfaction from addiction as it gives an opportunity to draw attention to themselves where they complain about things but don’t do anything about it

Treatment Options

When overcoming addiction, it is like anything else. The first step is to acknowledge the problem and declare a desire to eliminate it. There is little to no hope of improvement. Many people are enablers over the years and have learned to play to addiction while those people must be given permission to stop the behavior. A person who is addicted to the game of adrenaline rushes and going from one thing to another likely suffers from workaholism and other addictions and behaviors, as well. They need to have the courage to look at their lives, do an assessment, and figure out where everything went wrong.
