Robert Hillis - Founder & CEO

Robert Hillis is the Founder and CEO of Oceanfront Recovery. He has spent his entire career in the healthcare industry, starting at Direct Supply, the nation’s largest supplier of products and services to the senior living industry. Bobby’s vision for Oceanfront Recovery is to offer higher quality care. “We have worked hard to pull together an all-star team of professionals with many years of experience in recovery. We will continue to try and attract the best healthcare professionals and clinicians in the industry as the company grows in order to deliver the best service possible,” Hillis says. Bobby holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

Wes Walker - Executive Vice President

Wes Walker has brought his casual southern attitude to connect with and help thousands of people seeking treatment over the last decade. Having experience not only with admissions and administrative roles, he possesses a wealth of operations knowledge, as well as working as a discharge planner and alumni coordinator. He will not hesitate to share his own experiences and struggles, and he is  happy to reach out to his many connections to help a patient or family in need, at any time. He has often times been able to orchestrate creative solutions for people in crisis, where other treatment centers continually failed. Wes holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas.

 

Keenen Diamond - Chief Operating Officer

Keenen Diamond was previously the Director of Operations of a 112 bed behavioral health care company in Newport Beach, CA. Keenen was responsible for the day to day operations and supervision of over 80 employees. During this time he implemented new operational systems, training programs, a leadership development model and service excellence initiative. Keenen believes in the value of each unique individual employee, and strives to leverage their strengths to build a cohesive team and deliver an effective treatment episode. Keenan was also a key driver in the rebranding and brand management during his tenure.
 
Prior to moving to California, Keenen worked in the Snow sports business, operating retail stores and working in all facets of a large destination ski resort. Keenen lives with his wife in Orange County and their two children, and also enjoys skiing, sailing and watching sports. Keenen graduated from Middlebury College in 2003 with a BS in Economics and a focus on International Finance and Competitive Strategy.

 

 

Dr. Ed Kaufman

Oceanfront Recovery is pleased to announce Edward Kaufman, M.D. to our clinical team. Dr. Kaufman will serve as Oceanfront's Medical Director. Dr. Kaufman has been practicing psychiatry for over 40 years. He blends his knowledge of psychology, family systems and psychopharmacology to meet the client’s individual needs. He was a former president of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and Editor of the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Dr. Kaufman received his medical training at Jefferson University, USC and Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has authored 3 books, edited 5 more, and written over 200 articles and book chapters on family therapy, alcoholism, drug addiction, anxiety and depression. He was a full professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine, where he was the Director of Psychiatric Services, Residency and Medical Students Education and private alcohol/drug services.

 

Jacqueline Hoagland - Clinical Director

Jacque Hoagland is a strong believer in individualized treatment plans based on each client's strengths and desired goals. She has varying and plentiful experience in working as a clinical supervisor for state-funded programs, as well as being a clinical leader at a nationally recognized dual diagnosis treatment center. In addition to incredible vision in guiding the clinical care of clientele, Jacque is highly qualified in EMDR, CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy and is particularly well-suited for trauma work. Furthermore, Jacque was instrumental in developing a workforce development program for a non-profit and utilizes her skills and connections to help current clients find gainful employment beyond treatment. Jacque holds a Master's of Social Work from the University of Michigan.

 

Ernalyn Montgomery - Nurse Practitioner

Ernalyn is dual-licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Board Certified Child/Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). She completed undergraduate studies at Hawaii Pacific University, received her MSN/FNP at Univ of Phoenix, and completed her post-grad PMHNP at Arizona State University. Ernalyn has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who are suffering from chemical dependency, mental health disorders, and dual-diagnosis issues, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She also works as a professor at UC Irvine and has been involved there with developing/changing policy/protocols, auditing, peer-to-peer reviews, staff development, and conducting group sessions.

Ernalyn believes in individualizing care for her patients and the necessity of a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Her other interests include spending time with her family, being in the ocean, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

 

Cryssa Andersen - Primary Therapist

Utilizing a client-centered approach, Cryssa has plentiful and varied experience working with clients from an array of backgrounds. Possessing a Master’s Degree in Holistic Counseling from Salve Regina University and a Bachelor’s of Arts from Boston College, Cryssa brings a balanced approach to clients struggling with addiction to integrate the mind, body and spirit. This multi-faceted approach has been shown to develop awareness and an understanding of each client’s respective individual path towards healing and recovery. An avid sailor and mother, Cryssa is proud to be an Orange County native with a unique understanding of the area that reinforces stability and ease to those finding their “sea legs.”

 

Deb Watt - Therapist

Deb Watt

Born in New York, Deb Watt spent most of her formative years on the South shore of Long Island. Deb earned a dual major Bachelor's degree and a teaching credential in secondary education in NY.  After moving to Orange County, California, Deb taught, tutored, published, and raised her four children with her husband. She also earned a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is currently an MFT intern, and also a Counselor and Adjunct Professor for Saddleback Community College's Counseling Division.

Deb brings timely and relevant life experience to her clients, whether in individual, group or family sessions. Deb's strengths-based, experiential, motivational orientation provides clients with a safe, accepting, encouraging space for growth and healing.  She is passionate about engaging both creative and investigative attributes in assisting client self-efficacy and resiliency. Deb thrives on diversity and assisting clients to become the best version of themselves in recovery and life. 

 

Bert Shepley - Therapist

Bert is a licensed marriage and family therapist, with experience in EMDR and DBT. He understands there is not a “one size fits all” approach to recovery; each client has a unique addiction story and will embark on a unique recovery journey.

Bert considers it to be an honor to help each client realize their full potential in sobriety; a process of reinvention from a rigid focus on a substance to one that allows flexibility and growth. When not in the office, you can find Bert on his paddle board, or hiking with his wife of 27 years.

 

Jennifer Schilling - Art and Mindfulness Therapist

Jennifer is a Professional Clinical Counselor, licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Science. She graduated from Ottawa University in Phoenix, Arizona in 2010, with a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling and a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy.

She specializes in substance abuse, eating disorders, and trauma, using various expressive modalities to facilitate healing. Jennifer is trained and experienced in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapies, and Expressive Arts Therapy. She draws on all of her life experience, knowledge of various healing modalities, and clinical experience; joining the clients journey while providing a safe and nurturing approach. Jennifer was a foster parent for 8 years, is a Reiki Master, and has studied mindfulness and meditation practice. She believes in the clients ability to heal and find meaning and purpose in their lives.

 

Eric Billig - Lead Residential Clinician

Eric Billig has been working in addiction recovery for 20 plus years in roles ranging from lead substance abuse therapist for a psychiatric triage team, inpatient and outpatient therapy as well as case management.  From years of experience Eric uses modalities based in neuroscience and mindfulness to retrain the brain.  Eric holds a Masters in Marriage and Family therapy from Ryokan college in Los Angeles and held a substance abuse license in North Carolina.  

In his free time Eric enjoys music, traveling, family and is a fan of mixed martial arts.  Oceanfront Recovery is fortunate to have Eric’s expertise as he is the first contact for clients entering our treatment facility.  He can quickly connect with clients and by providing psychoeducation on neuroscience aids them in separating their needs from the illusion of the needs of their addiction.  Clients can almost automatically start identifying “that’s my addiction talking”, allowing them to feel empowered over their addiction.

Danielle attended Chapman University in Orange before having worked for a non profit agency assisting the reentry population within numerous county and state facilities.

Wanting to continue her passion for helping others she began working in the field of recovery in February 2017.

Danielle is the transition and alumni coordinator here at Oceanfront. She is tasked with assisting clients plan ahead in their next chapter of sobriety which includes finding employment, sober living, continuing education and finding local meetings for them to attend. She also oversees alumni events ensuring that clients stay connected after graduating the program. During her free time you will find her spending time with her family and animals and staying as close to the beach as possible!

Sandy Giltiman - Acupuncture Specialist

The benefits of utilizing acupuncture as a therapy tool for those in recovery began in 1974.  Since that time, many have come to believe that effective acupuncture session will help to release endorphins in one’s central nervous system, helping clients with their cravings for substances and can even be beneficial in helping urges with those struggling with dietary concerns. Oceanfront employs licensed acupuncturists that offer weekly sessions to all of our clients.

 

Courtney Roberts - Yoga

Liv (Courtney) Roberts, MA, RYT, is a Yoga Alliance certified Vinyasa Flow Yoga Instructor. Liv began practicing yoga in 2002 and began teaching in 2011. Her own practice has allowed her to find more patience, compassion and clarity. Her classes are influenced by the styles she enjoys, including Vinyasa, Bikram, Ashtanga and Kundalini, and her main focus is to inspire in others a love and appreciation for all of the benefits that a consistent yoga practice provides.

She encourages her students to foster a deeper connection to themselves and others. Liv has also studied and practiced Vipassana mediation, completing a ten-day silent meditation course in December 2011. She is currently pursuing her PhD with a focus in Mindfulness-based Education.

 

 

 

Sharon Siegel - Administrative Accountant

Sharon is a CPA with over 25 years of accounting experience. Her responsibilities include all aspects of financial reporting, cash flow analysis, budgeting and forecasting, human resource issues, and general business needs. Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University.

Justin was born and raised in Dana Point, CA and has always been local to Southern California.  He has a background in real estate, mortgage processing and marketing.  Justin has a passion for helping others and being part of a “bigger cause”.  After losing friends to addiction, Justin pursued a career in the recovery world.  He has an extremely positive attitude and is very welcoming during the intake process. 

 

Evan Vara - Admissions Coordinator

Born and raised in Southern California, Evan embodies the culture and spirit of Orange County like few others.  His tireless work ethic coupled with his natural abilities as both a “people person” and a problem-solver allows Evan to be a great resource for potential families and clients, alike.  Evan enjoys surfing and long walks on the beach with his canine companions, Knox and Brix.

 

Jim Sugel - Digital Marketing

Jim Sugel has worked in IT and Recovery for his entire career, holding positions in a variety of small and large companies as a software developer and consultant. After relocating to Southern California from Chicago, he became involved in the recovery industry here, discovering a natural niche in helping treatment centers with technology and Internet projects.

Jim’s other interests include hiking, canyoneering, and screenwriting. He is also active in the recovery community, especially in working with the homeless populations in Los Angeles and Orange County. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude in Computer Science and Psychology from Loyola University Chicago.

Gus Gus - Official Team Mascot!

Gus is Jacque’s 10 year old black lab who accompanies her to work almost daily. He has become a staple at Oceanfront and can be found lounging around her office or laying in groups providing emotional support to clients.  In return he asks for belly rubs and carrots!   Gus has followed Jacque over the years to different programs she has been involved with and even made an appearance in Psychology Today.    He loves running each morning and can never get enough car rides.
