Globalization brought on by the internet has been both good and bad. Good in that information flows more freely through our fingertips. Bad in that it is not regulated in some ways and drugs are slipping into the black market where people are getting ahold of some very nasty types of drugs taking their lives. Street samples of heroin are often mixed with benzodiazepines.
New Trends
Sometimes taking drugs or drug mixtures can be part of a trend. Despite an overall decline in the use of recreational drugs, an increase has been reported in cocaine use among younger people. Sometimes a trend is caused because a drug or drug mixture is sought which has a similar effect to drugs which have become difficult to obtain or are expensive. One drug, Krokodil, is a homemade version of desomorphine, a cheap alternative to heroin. It is manufactured from codeine but can result in terrible injuries and trauma.
Antiretrovirals
These drugs can be hallucinogenic and cause dissociative effects. As a consequence, and the low cost, people in poorer communities struggle with addiction to these drugs. The problem is that it is highly addictive and causes people to resort to crime to finance their habit. It has a mixture of drugs found in Nyaope with chemical properties that are hard to analyze and profile. These drug mixtures are taken for the high and feeling of it, but fentanyl and other drugs are being mixed in to these substances, making them more dangerous (and lethal) than ever before.
Fentanyl
Fentanyl is 50-100 times more potent than morphine and up to 50 times more powerful than diamorphine. It can be absorbed into the skin or through inhalation of the drug powder. This presents a risk to anyone using the drug or attending to someone who has used it as they may also get sick when inhaling the substance. One mixture, Grey Death, contains fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, and synthetic opiate that is seven times more potent than morphine. Purple Heroin is a combination of heroin, morphine, fentanyl, and carfentanil. Very little drug is required to have an effect and small amounts can cause seizure, arrhythmia, breathing difficulties, and death.
The challenge of these drugs is that they are hard to get off of but with the right treatment, people can recover from addiction to these dangerous substances. It is necessary to seek medical attention if you are addicted to them and find help for addiction recovery.
